LACF Teaching Interest Form

Please use the form below to express interest in teaching in the LACF Initiative. We are currently seeking educators to teach courses in the 2025-2026 academic year and beyond.

Through the LACF, Colorado College faculty offer for-credit courses at no cost in the Youthful Offenders System (YOS) facility in Pueblo, which serves a population of 19 to 25-year-olds.  Student receive credit through Pueblo Community College (PCC), and courses are guaranteed to transfer as requirements toward associates or bachelor's degrees at any Colorado public institution of higher learning.  The foundation of LACF is a 3-way partnership between Colorado College, the Colorado Department of Corrections, and Pueblo Community College (PCC).

Frequently Asked Questions

We are looking for instructors with strong college teaching experience, deep interest in the LACF mission, demonstrated use of ADEI practices in the classroom, and experience with diverse populations.
Historically, CC has offered a rotation of three courses - a mathematics, writing, and humanities course.  Moving forward, the Department of Corrections (DOC) now welcomes any courses within the Colorado Guaranteed Transfer Menu.

As guaranteed transfer courses, instructors must work within the parameters and guidelines set by the state.  However, the CC educator will design the syllabus for this course in collaboration with Pueblo Community College (PCC) faculty, and in doing so, may bring in other primary and scholarly sources.

The expectation is that instructors meet with students for a total of 45 contact hours, which may be divvied up as instructors prefer.  Most people teach twice a week for 2 or 2.5 hour sessions, with the duration of the course adjusted accordingly.  Because of the highly scheduled nature of institutionalized life, classes must be taught between 6-9 pm to not conflict with other expectations and commitments in the facility.

LACF will cover your mileage expenses to and from YOS.

Teachers will receive a $7,000 stipend to teach one semester-long course. In addition, LACF will be able to cover expenses related to teaching, such as books and other materials, and mileage to and from YOS.

Iinstructors must complete a background check and submit CVs to Pueblo Community College's administration. All offers are contingent upon candidates passing the extensive DOC background check and approval process.

You can read more about the program on the main webpage, here. Faculty and staff interested in applying (or getting involved in the future) are encouraged to watch the LACF info session, linked here if they did not attend the session in person.

Questions about the program may be directed to any of the instructors who have taught in the program before (listed on the main LACF webpage in the "Course History" section).  General questions may be directed to the CC Incarceration Community Engagement Group (Jordan Travis Radke, Paul Adler, Shawn Womack, Niki Sosa Gallegos).

Motivations and Background

Please briefly respond to the following short-answer questions. This is just the start of the conversation!  We expect each response to be around 2-3 sentences; however, feel free to use as much space as you feel necessary.

Why are you interested in teaching in the Liberal Arts in Correctional Facilities Initiative? What do you hope to gain, and what do you hope to contribute?
What teaching experiences and expertise prepare you to teach the LACF course you hope to teach?
What experiences and expertise prepare you to engage with and educate marginalized communities, and particularly incarcerated individuals?

Interest in Non-Credit Educational Offerings

The Department of Corrections is also open to the possibility of educational short courses or workshops that provide enriching learning experiences, but are not credit-bearing coures in the pursuit of a degree.  These short courses or workshops might be offered in facilities such as La Vista Correctional Facility or Centennial Correctional Facility.  If you have interest in offering these types of courses, please share your ideas here.

Please share any short courses or workshops that you would be interested in offering in DOC facilities. Please note that offerings will ultimately depend on the interest and needs of the DOC and incarcerated people; please try to remain open to co-creation and evolution of initial ideas, as needed.
